No Danger of Winning is a hilarious and heartbreaking meta-musical based on the playwright’s interviews with ten former contestants of color from The Bachelor Franchise. The show begins with Maya getting her friend Joy to watch The Bachelor with her. Joy, disgusted and intrigued, vows to make a musical about former contestants of color. She believes that if she can criticize the show’s racism, audiences will see people like her and Maya as more desirable. But once she starts to interview them, she realizes things are not what they seem. This compels her to confront her own realities, in the musical and in her own relationships, about who is ‘worthy of love’ and who is not. She realizes while she criticizes representation politics on Reality TV, she must create new narratives for an audience simultaneously. Can she do it? What might she lose? Is she in no danger of winning?
